Due to COVID-19, like everything else, the Gravelbourg Community Garden is not going according to the original plan. When filling out the grant application, the intent was to have the community (schools, community groups, volunteers) grow and sell vegetables at the Farmer’s Market on a ‘’Pay what you can’’ basis, to have affordable fresh produce for the community. The revenue from the sales were to be reinvested in a start-up fund for the following year and to donate the rest to the Food Bank.
Unfortunately, with the current situation, our plan is to go ahead and plant seeds in the upcoming week and have it maintained by the Town. Hopefully, as the season progresses, we can allow the public to come and help as the space can allow for social distancing.
The Community Garden is located north of the Villa, behind the Path of Peace Rock Labyrinth. It consists of 23 raised garden beds.
The project is funded by TD Friends of the Environment Fund. We would also like to thank Bouvier Greenhouse for their contribution towards the supplies for the community garden!
