Summer Solstice Festival Looking for an Artist

September 16 2020

Attention All Artists,

We are looking for an artistic individual to create a large-scale backdrop to be used at the Gravelbourg Summer Solstice Festival.

To be considered to commission the piece, please submit a sketch/mock-up of your idea, 3 samples of previous artwork, and your estimate (not including production costs). Your finished artwork can be produced on any medium but requires to be photographed or scanned for final production to be displayed in 3 - 18ft x 12ft vinyl banners. We would like the ability to use the banners together as one large backdrop (18’ h by 36’ w), or if possible, the option for them to be used individually as stand-alone pieces.

Our vision for this art piece is to represent a beautiful backdrop that encompasses the spirit and roots of the Festival – a ‘celebration of the sol’ that includes an appreciation of our diverse culture and community, and a showcase of music, literacy and performing arts. The following is a well-known quote that embodies the meaning of this time of year.

“The festival of the summer solstice speaks of love and light, of freedom and generosity of spirit. It is a beautiful time of year where vibrant flowers whisper to us with scented breath, forests and woodlands hang heavy in the summer’s heat and our souls become enchanted with midsummer magic.”
Carole Carlton

The deadline for submissions is October 13th.

Please submit your details by email to gravelbourgsolsticefestival@gmail.com

or by mail to P.O. Box 960, Gravelbourg, SK, S0H 1X0.

The artist that is chosen will have the support of the Summer Solstice Board throughout the entire process. We know there is an abundance of talent in Gravelbourg and surrounding area and look forward to seeing everyone’s art!
